It all started when Caleb decided to start a handyman business…

Probably just like you, he didn’t know much about running a business,  let alone running a successful business.  He just knew he wanted to do great things for his customers and make a decent living.  He thought he would focus on word-of-mouth referrals and help anyone who called. 

On top of that, he was really struggling to figure out what he should be charging.  He didn’t think a website was necessary, just a luxury.  He had carpentry skills, but the marketing and systems side of his business wasn't thought out at all.

So he reached out to Becca

Caleb had one advantage... his sister Becca had already ran a service based business for over 15 years, and her business was focused on building successful brands for service based businesses. He knew that starting with her expertise was the first step. So he reached out and asked for help.

 Right away we started by determining the target market and then built a website that was simple and direct.  This allowed us to establish that it was a legit business.  It also allowed us to direct all the leads to a form on the website that asked all the right questions.  That way if Caleb went to a customer’s site, he wasn’t wasting his time on a job that wasn’t a good fit.  We also built an online presence.  We used Google Maps and Yelp to get the momentum going.  As a result, he quickly became fully booked.

And then some magic…

Becca used a process to help determine what the hourly rate needed to be to make a profit. That was an eye-opener!!  The icing on the cake was setting up an easy and efficient Customer Relationship Manager.  Now we were rolling!

Along came Pete…

Three years into the business, Caleb had hit a ceiling. He was fully booked out as a solo business, but he desired growth. At the same time, Pete, Becca's husband, was looking to leave a 10 year career as a mechanic at Boeing. The guys hatched a plan of building the business together and with Becca's marketing and systems as the spring board they had the foundations needed to grow.

In the next 12 months, the business grew 3.5x and they had their first million dollar year.

And started to build a team of handyman to scale.

Around the same time as Pete's joining as co-owner of North Seattle Handyman, UpFlip reached out to feature North Seattle Handyman. Becca's opinion was all PR is good PR! And it's always a good bump for SEO too. The three of us thought about what we could offer in value for the video and The Handyman System idea was put together. We wondered...

I’m not very tech-savvy, will this work for me?

We implement the back end of the tech and show you how to use it on a daily basis.  The system is built to keep your life easy.  It’s effective because of its simplicity.  While no system works if you don’t utilize it, this one is so simple you have no reason not to use it. Trust us, you don’t need to be a tech genius to be successful!

I’m already too busy, how much time do I need to invest?

We do the work for you to make your life as easy as possible.  We just ask for 4, 2-hour calls with Becca over the three-month period to get you started.  After that, we can communicate as needed. The rest is done for you!

How long before this is operational and I can start making some money?

We can get the systems up and running within the first month so you can functionally take in jobs, and the entire brand and website takes 3 months. I know this can sound like a long time, but , in the scheme of things, where will you be in your business in 16 weeks if you try to do this on your own? 

What if I already have a website and my brand is built? Can this work for me?

Is your website and brand strategy bringing you the right clients? If so, then we can hop straight to building your systems instead of focusing on your brand strategy and messaging. The Systems in Place and Lead Fuel bundle will be best for this case.

Does this include my brand visuals and logo design?

Part of the process of your brand strategy is determining the visuals of your brand. In the process we will determine you colors, fonts and over all design angle that will attract your ideal clients. The Built From Scratch Bundle and the Built to Stand Out solo package both include logo design.

I don't have a business name yet, can you help?

I do have a Business Name Consultation service, which is different than this service where I can help you determine the best name that will easily rank as it aligns with the search keywords for your town. Business Name Consulting is $350.
This service does help you determine your URL if you do not already have one.

I don't know how to price myself or how long jobs will take, will you help?

Pricing profitably is a key aspect to building a successful (and fulfilling) business. In System In Place you get our Pricing and Projections workbook. This will walk you through exactly how much you need to charge hourly to have a profitable business AND what it looks like to scale.

Do you help to understand how long jobs will take?

As a handyman, you'll get a large variety of types of inquiries. This is part of what makes the job so interesting, but it also means that quoting and estimating the length a job takes is more complex. In Systems In Place We go over strategy on how to tackle this best with your business in mind. The next step is translating that to your pricing which is done with our price book. The Price book gives the price, description and estimated time each task will take for 189 service items. Pricing is all based off of your determined hourly rate.
